2009 is already shaping up to be a good year for music with a some awesome album releases. I've had time to have a good listen to the following albums, this is what I thought:
From beginning to end, this album is absolute sexsauce. (thats a good thing). Mr Oizo (pronounced Wah-zoh by the way) returns with his Avant-garde futuristic style of music, to bring one of my favourite albums of 08.
This is definately an album you have to absolutely love or absolutely hate.. and I really mean that. Upon the first full listen you'll either be thinking "Holy shit this is incrediblox" or "This isn't music".
If we lived with robots this would be their favourite album. 8/10
Franz and his friends are back to take us out... tonight... (cringe). Four years after the albums that had us screaming "TAKE ME OUT" and "Well.. do ya, do ya do ya wanna?" these guys are back to rock our jocks with 'Tonight'.
The album follows a very similar style to the past albums and definitely doesn't disappoint. On first listen, a lot of the tracks jump out at you including Ulysses and Live Alone. Anyway, this album was just released day's ago so I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more of it. 7/10
Mr Boratto is back after his collection of amazing and moving electronic 'Chromophobia'. He brought a very unique kind of minimal music to the stage... a type that was very happy and lively and was very refreshing compared to other electronic music at the time.
The question is, does his second studio album live up to the first? The answer unfortunately, is no. 'Take my breath away' has a few good tracks and is an overall pleasure to listen to but it lacks a lot of depth and doesn't leave a lasting impression. This album is slated for a March 09 release.. so thanks internet. 4/10
I was very late to jump on their first and previous album 'Dreams' (2006) - I got it after hearing the amazing Fred Falke remix of Golden Cage. To be honest, their first album wasn't amazing... some standout tracks but as a whole it was average.
'Rules' is slated for a March 2009 release so don't expect to find it on the shelves just yet. The question is, should you be looking forward to it? YES. This album is great - I'm actually listening to it right now and they really remind me of Cut Copy... but not as flat. Very catchy, very laid back, very sexy music. Thanks white boy. 7/10
