Breaking Dawn Hits Theaters this November
Breaking Dawn is the final installment in the Twilight Saga, a novel written by American author Stephenie Meyer. Twilight is a supernatural vampire-themed romance film series that focuses on the life of Isabella “Bella” Swan who falls in love with a 104-year-old vampire Edward Cullen. Yes, he’s that old. You probably imagine him in men’s Renaissance clothing!
The novel became a movie in which Kristen Stewart stars as Bella and Edward is played by Robert Pattinson. Most of the series are told from the perspective of Bella. However, the second part of the Breaking Dawn is told from the point of view of another primary character Jacob Black, a werewolf who’s madly in love with Bella as well. Jacob Black is portrayed by Taylor Lautner.
If you haven’t watched the first parts of the series, it would be a good idea to do so. This way, it would be easier for you to catch up and understand the story that revolves around the love triangle of Bella, Edward and Jacob. The first installment entitled Twilight was released in 2008. The second part New Moon came a year later. The third movie Eclipse was shown in theaters in 2010. Eclipse was the first one to be released in IMAX. In 2004, the series was in development at Paramount Pictures.
However, three years after that, Summit Entertainment purchased the rights to the film. What convinced the author Meyer to sell the rights to Summit Entertainment was the fact that Paramount Pictures wanted to make the screen adaptation different from what was written in the book. After seeing the script made by Paramount wherein Bella was transformed into a star athlete, Meyer became convinced to sell the rights to another movie production outfit. Summit Entertainment guaranteed Meyer close adaptation of the book.
Director of Twilight Catherine Hardwicke visited the set of the movie Adventureland where Stewart played the lead role. This was to see the actress in an informal screen test. The actress immediately “captivated the director.” As for Pattinson, he wasn’t the initial choice for Edward Cullen but he won the role after auditioning with Stewart. Some of the original choices were Emily Browning and Henry Cavill. As for Jacob Black, New Moon director Chris Weitz thought about replacing Taylor Lautner as he wanted to look for an actor who can portray the “new and larger Jacob Black.” Lautner, in his desire to keep the role, worked out rigorously and was able to put on 30 lbs.
Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner amassed worldwide fame right after the first film of the series was released in 2008. They have become household names and are very popular wherever they go. They have earned a massive following, mostly teenage girls who can’t get enough of the romantic story behind the film series. The fans are divided into two groups: Team Jacob and Team Edward, depending on whom they are rooting for. If you’re also a fan, you shouldn’t miss the opening of the first part of the last installment which is November this year.
